NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A small plane experiencing engine Monday night crashed along an interstate highway in Nashville, killing all five people aboard, reports say.
Metro Nashville Police say the pilot of the plane made an emergency call and asked to land at John C. Tune Airport at about 7:40 p.m. The pilot again contacted the airport short time later and said he would not make it to the runway.
The Tennessean reports the plane crashed alongside Interstate 40 in Nashville at about 7:45 p.m. It reportedly burst into flames upon impact.
“That impact was catastrophic and did not leave any survivors,” Nashville Fire Department spokesperson Kendra Loney said, according to CNN.
The plane did not strike any buildings or vehicles, News Channel 5 reports. The identities of the victims have not been released.
The Tennessean reports the plane, a C-FBWH, left Mount Sterling, Kentucky, at about 7:19 p.m. It was bound for John C. Tune Airport.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
